George was born in Santa Fe. His appreciation for fine art began at an early age and he took advantage of every art class available to him through his school years. George later enrolled in art classes at the College of Santa Fe and he studied with Lee Rommel , a noted Santa Fe artist, for six years. Painting in oils and watercolor, his subjects range from ranch and desert landscapes and big game to ancient kachina dolls and trout scenes. His work has been featured in shows at the Rommel Gallery, The Elaine Horwitch Gallery, The Betts Gallery, The Griffith Ranch Trading Company, The Governors Gallery, Gallery Zipp, Santa Fe Fine Art Brokerage and Gallery and Cogswell Gallery in Vail.

George learned silversmithing while in his late teens and this trade has been his livelihood for over thirty five years. Silver jewelry by George Stumpff has been displayed throughout the United States as well as Germany, England, Denmark, and Japan. Georges work was featured in Skystone and Silver, one of the finest books focusing on silversmiths and silversmithing. The many collectors of this extraordinary jeweler include Greer Garson, Fes Parker, Peter Coyote, Sean Penn, Charles Bronson, Bruce Nauman, and Robert DeNiro.

George continues to design jewelry and create new paintings from his home at eighty two hundred feet in the northeast mountains of Santa Fe.
