Heather Hanley is a native of northern Louisiana now living in Albuquerque. She first started metalsmithing in 1994 in a Vermont barn while working on her graduate degree. After finishing a BA in Cultural Anthropology and an MA in international and Intercultural Management, she spent 8 years working internationally with refugees—primarily working with women on microfinance and income generation projects. She moved to New Mexico in 2005. Her metal work has been fueled by years of living and working in other cultures [particularly Nepal, India, West Africa and the Caucasus, all of which have long traditions of metalsmithing and jewelry making]. Heather has had the great fortune to work with many artisans from these diverse cultures, whom have influenced her life and art today.
