CLAY MASKS WITH MIXED MEDIA Hilarey’s masks are constructed from Raku clay, cut from patterns, formed, assembled, carved and then kiln fired. Post firing, the masks are painted with acrylics, and embellished with mixed media. The mixed media may include metal sheet, wires, ethnic objects, decorative papers, metal leaf, natural objects such as branches and skeletal remains and more. No two masks are identical, therefore each mask varies according to artistic evolution, interpretation and availability of mixed media objects and materials. ANIMAL MASKS Humans have used masks to invoke the subtle hypnotic world of souls and spirits. In turn animals lure us away from our civilized artifices to restore our basic instincts. Our sister and brother animals remind us of the value of all beings.
